Who Dey Revolution Manifesto

  • Preamble

    IN THIS TIME of perpetual Cincinnati Bengals incompetence and futility, with zero playoff wins in the seventeen seasons since the WhoDeyRevolution Godfather, Paul Brown, passed away in 1991 and handed the team to his fortunate son, the Despot, Mike Brown;

    Introduction

    WE, the members of the Who Dey Revolution, in our fervent dedication to the Cincinnati Bengals and fanatical desire to transform our hometown team into perpetual Super Bowl contenders, call for a popular revolution of fans to demand comprehensive reform to the managerial decisions and approach of Cincinnati Bengals ownership, management, staff and players, and hereby call for the adoption of the following Who Dey Revolution Manifesto:

    Manifesto Demands

    THAT the Mike Brown, Katie Blackburn, Marvin Lewis, along with every other member of the Bengals management, staff and personnel, state publicly to all Bengals fans, “I will do everything in my power to help the Cincinnati Bengals win a Super Bowl;”

    THAT Mike Brown will hire a general manager, drastically expand the scouting department and relinquish all control of player personnel;

    THAT all training, rehabilitation and medical facilities are considered best-in-class compared to other NFL teams;

    THAT the management fill the team only with players who fit the system, both mentally and physically, and are not reluctant to makes changes to player personnel when needed, regardless of cost or loyalty concerns;

    THAT offensive and defensive line depth is considered the top priority for all player personnel decisions;

    THAT all decisions made by ownership, management, staff and players, both on and off the field, are judged only by this criterion: “Does this help the Cincinnati Bengals win a Super Bowl?”

The 5 Worst Bengal QB's of the Mike Brown Era

Burningcouch Some of you might have seen this already but pro-football reference recently put out a list on the worst QB’s of all time. I’m sure everybody out there in Bengaldom will be shocked to learn that some of our very own hometown heroes made the list. Unlike the folks over at pro-football reference, I didn’t use some fancy mathematical formula to create my list of the five worst Bengal QB’s of the Mike Brown era. I just used my substantial and ever expanding gut.

For my rankings I wanted guys the Bengals played because the organization thought this player provided the team with its best chance to win. I didn’t want guys who started out of necessity because injuries ahead of them on the depth chart forced them into action. Sadly this meant I had to cut Paul Justin, (you may remember Paul for having one of the best buckstaches of all time - even though he wasn’t from the Buckeye State - he deserves an honorary exemption for that magnificent thing) Erik Wilhelm, Scott Covington, Eric Kresser, and Don Hollis from the list.

So without further ado here is the five worst starting QB’s Mike Brown ever signed a pay check for:

Acquiring Fringe Character Players Does Not Equal Commitment to Win by Ownership

It is being argued elsewhere that the startling number of arrests and character issues among the Bengals Chris_henry_mugshotpersonnel cannot be blamed on ownership.  In fact, elsewhere has gone so far as to argue that the malcontents that occupy the Bengals roster space actually prove ownership's commitment to win, stating that:

"If anything, picking up players that develop "character issues" should prove that the team will acquire anyone, at any cost, to win."

Let's be clear, when ownership picks up players like Chris Henry, Odell Thurman & Frostee Rucker they are doing so because they hope to win on the cheap by acquiring first class talent at a discount due to the baggage that comes with these players.  This, quite obviously, strikes us as the opposite of a total commitment to win as the organization would rather take chances on loose cannons and keep the bottom line healthy than make the necessary expenditures on quality players with clean rap sheets.

June 1 Deadline - Chad Still Silent

Babychad_2 Since before the draft, everyone has pointed to June 1st or after as the day we might
be bidding Chad Johnson goodbye. Well, that day has come and gone and now as the
summer heat approaches, everyone will get a tad crazier and more inclined to accept
the hairbrained as logical. Like Chad walking away from football to work on his golf
game so that he might one day be able to play on the senior tour.

I, for one, don't care one way or the other whether Chad holds out or we trade him or he goes off to live and run in the mountains with Stephon Marbury. It just doesn't matter to me anymore. He's like a terminal patient, I have already written him off.

As for him being a distraction to the team, I find it hard to believe that he can be a bigger distraction this year than in any of the years passed. He would have to do something awful like giving the whole WR corps the plague to top his consistently ridiculous antics.

All of this animosity could also dissolve between him and the team come training camp when it dawns
on him that demanding things from Mike Brown is akin to demanding things from god, if anything you'll
get smote down before he accedes to your wishes. If anything, Chad will come slinking back to the
team, play hard for a couple games then go down with a mysterious injury just when the Bengals are
starting to get rolling on offense. Or if he really wanted to stick it ot Brown and Marvin and Cincinnati,
he would play his ass off all year and then go back to holding out and asking for a raise once we've made
the playoffs, painting Mikey into a corner where he might have to renegotiate with Chad instead of getting run out of town by West Siders rabid for playoff glory.

Bengal Hero: Harold Green

031663_hg Part three of Bengal Heroes takes us back to near the beginning of the disastrous Mike Brown era when everything started to go wrong in Bengladom. The year was 1992, Dave Shula was coaching the Bengals to a 5-11 record, Anthony Munoz would play his last NFL game, and Boomer (he played terrible with a 57.0 QB rating that was the worst of his career) was replaced as the starting quarterback by David Klingler (the rookie showed just how bright his future would be sporting a 66.3 QB Rating). Amidst all the doom and gloom the Bengals lone ray of sunshine that year was running back, Harold Green.

The Superbowl Champion Cincinnati Bengals. Why Not?

Here's why the Bengals are going to win the Superbowl next season.  This is my story and I’m sticking to it at least until they lose week 1 to the Ravens.

-2008 is the year where everything is going to go right just once (yes i've now sunk to the "we are due" theory it's really all I have left so be nice).

-The offensive line will stay healthy (there is no doubt in my mind that the season hinges on the O-line being great which is why I’ve deluded myself into liking franchising Stacey Andrews) and provide stability for Carson so that he can throw for 4,000yds and 30tds.

-The offense will be a top-5 offense that finishes games off behind a strong running game anchored by the reappearance of a healthy fresh Chris Perry (that we ever thought of signing the undead corpse of Shaun Alexander will be a distant afterthought).

-Chad will be dancing in endzones across America while T.J. and Ben Utecht convert key third downs all season long.

-The rookie receivers will replace most of Henry's production, and Rudi might even decide that he wants to break tackles again (Geoff Hobson tells me its going to happen so why not just pretend, it's easier trust me).

Donate your Chad Johnson Jersey to Charity

If you are like me and believe that the Bengals need to get rid of Chad Johnson quicker than you can say “Please,  Mike Brown, for the love of God, trade Chad Johnson for another 1st round pick,” the big issue is what to do with your #85 jersey you used to wear with such pride.

Chad_redskins We at WhoDeyRevolution have a solution – donate it to charity. Mo Egger, Lance McAllister and Alan Cutler over at 1530AM HOMER are doing a similar single-day promotion for their draft party on Saturday, but we want to give Bengals Nation more opportunity to get rid of your 85 jersey’s.

We are going to work to set up drop points at bars and restaurants all over this great country of ours to collect your now worthless Chad Johnson jersey’s. Once we have worked it out with the revolutionary establishment, we will donate them to a charity that will donate the jersey’s to needy children all over the world, similar to what they do each year with the losing teams Super Bowl Champion shirts.

One drop-off location has already been established in Cincinnati Slatts Pub, a great neighborhood bar/restaurant in Blue Ash.

Slatts Pub is located at 4858 Cooper Road in downtown Blue Ash. If you drop by when they are open, they will have a location where you can leave the jersey.

And make sure you stay for some of their biscuits. Trust me.

Check back often for more locations across the country where you can discard your #85 jersey.
